Obituary for Paul Gripp

Paul Douglas Gripp, age 54, of Des Moines, WA, sadly passed away on September 15, 2017. Paul graduated from St. Benedict’s school, attended Blanchett, and also attended Lincoln High School. While attending Lincoln High School he met Thea Dalhart, his wife. Soon after attending Lincoln High they married and had one child, Victoria J. Gripp. He went to ITT Tech school, where he learned how to work as an electrician and later became a Journeyman. It was this schooling that propelled him into what he really loved... FISHING.

The Bering Sea has called many men to it, and Paul was no exception. He started working on the All Alaskan vessel as a processor in the slime line. With the education he received from ITT Tech he was able to work his way up to an Engineer. In 2011 he was part of the Blue North Fisheries family. When he returned he captained his own boat, offering boat rides as a pirate, on which he was known as “Cap’n Daddy” of a “booze cruise.” His love for the sea was as strong as any one man could have, and he called the sea home. He loved watching the orcas swim past his boat, Crown Royal, Marlboro Reds, cigars, and beautiful women; Not always, in that order. He had a saying which he lived by “ life’s good if you let it be.”

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dolores Otterstad Gripp, his father, Jack Dennis Gripp, and a sister, Sherry Johnson.

He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Gripp Mayne (Cory), two grandchildren, Cory Jr. and Kaylin of Apple Valley, CA. He is also survived by eight siblings, Sandy Gripp Larson (Mel) of Everett, WA, Jackie Gripp Pauli (Dan) of Cheyenne, WY, Bill Gripp (Mary Ann) of Williston, SC, David Gripp (Beth) of Scottsville, KY, Michael Gripp (Suzette) of Eads, TN, Patti Flynn of Bremerton, WA, Mark Gripp (Karilyn) of Port Orchard,WA, and Matthew Gripp of Marietta, GA.
He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
