It's still as heartfelt as the moment I crafted these words. It will always be. I know someday, we'll be reunited.

- Your son, Jason.

Earlier today, marked the turning of a life chapter. One that most everyone will face with reluctance. I lost my dad (Roger Lampitt) to a short and deadly chess match against cancer.

Something you need to understand about dad. He was a fighter. He'd proven his mettle against health-related challenges and come out on top - against all odds - more than once. He wasn't going out easy. But cancer isn't easy. It matched his move, point-for-point. Swiftly.

I didn't know my dad well, but I have great memories of us fishing for rainbow trout in the cold, clear waters of the lake near his house. Snowmobiling in the Cascades, looking for that perfect Christmas Tree. Bailing hay on the Lampitt family farm, which always seem to bring out the magic of a perfect summer twilight sky. Of large Lampitt family meals during the holidays, around Grandma's massive dining room table. Trotting around Western Washington State, calling on his dairy/feed customers on behalf of Western Farmers (now Land O'Lakes).

He wasn't perfect, but he's my dad. Those sometimes larger-than-life characters that we love and care for so deeply, but can't explain why. He was mysterious, and gentle. Keen, and crafty. Elusive, yet intriguing. Distant, but loved.

I will miss you.
